Horsing Around with Whistle Pig Farm
Whistle Pig Farm and The Neighborhood House are teaming up to offer a totally unique opportunity for kids ages 9-13. For six weeks we’ll be visiting the farm to take part in all sorts of activities ranging from basic horsemanship and riding to gardening homesteading, cooking, and more!
A Recipe That's Out of this World
Throughout the course of the summer, participants in the various Neighborhood House day camp programs take part in all sorts of adventures and activities— from hiking the mountains of Acadia to discovering hidden artistic abilities, and everything in between. On a recent morning, Neighborhood House board member and volunteer extraordinaire Douglas Cornman jumped into the act to lead a group of campers through the paces in the kitchen.
Bike Parade Welcomes Huge Turnout
The 19th Annual Neighborhood House Bike Parade & Ice Cream Social wheeled into town on Wednesday, August 7 welcoming more than 200 participants, and many more ice cream connoisseurs from across MDI. What started out nearly two decades ago as just an excuse for the community to gather and share a simple ice cream sundae has evolved into one of the more anticipated events of the summer, eagerly anticipated by both year ‘round and seasonal residents as well as visitors who just happen to stumble upon the fun.
Ho! Ho! Ho! Christmas in July Hits NE Hbr.
The Mount Desert Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its first ever “Christmas in July” celebration on Thursday, January 25th in Northeast Harbor.
Beautiful Weather Sets Stage for A Great Concert
On Thursday, July 18, Bee Parks & The Hornets took the “stage” outside at the Northeast Harbor Marina. Blue skies and a gentle breeze just strong enough to keep the mosquitos away made for a perfect evening outdoors.
Here's the Scoop: 19th Annual Bike Parade & Ice Cream Social
August is just around the corner, and that means it's time to start making plans for the 19th Annual Neighborhood House Bike Parade & Ice Cream Social. We're not sure why this event has grown so much or become such an anticipated annual tradition, but we do know it's always a whole lot of fun. Grab your wheels (bikes, scooters, skateboards, tricycles, strollers, and other contraptions welcome) and join us! .
Bash at the Boatyard An Overwhelming Success!
On July 11, 325 guests gathered at Abel’s Yacht Yard on Somes Sound for the 4thAnnual Bash at the Boatyard, a fundraiser for The Neighborhood House. In addition to raising funds to assist with the year ‘round slate of activities, and in particular the Summer Camp program, the evening also serves as a chance to gather with friends to celebrate and socialize in a laid-back atmosphere.
Bee Parks & The Hornets Buzz into Northeast Harbor
The Neighborhood House is thrilled to be teaming up with our friends from the Northeast Harbor Library as well as Island Readers & Writers to welcome the amazingly talented “Bee Parks & The Hornets” to the stage for a FREE all ages show. Once you see the show, you’ll know what all the buzz is about!
Bash at the Boatyard Sets Sail July 11
Six o’clock at Abel’s Yacht Yard
The 4th Annual Bash at the Boatyard will take place on Thursday, July 11 at Abel’s Yacht Yard on the shores of Somes Sound. All proceeds from the evening will go towards supporting the wide array of year ‘round programs and events at the 114 year old Neighborhood House. Tickets are available in advance for $90 at 276-5039 and can also be purchased online.
Community Cookout Draws a Crowd
On May 27 (Memorial Day), The Neighborhood House welcomed about 400 guests who had gathered from across MDI for the annual Community Cookout. Numerous members of the Board of Directors turned out to lend a hand throughout the day, helping with everything from seeing up underneath the tent to taking orders and flipping burgers.
Finishing Touches Put on Revamped Parady Room
Jack Ledbetter is perhaps known best for his beautiful photography. What you might not know about Jack, however, is that he also contributes his time and energy as a volunteer member of The Neighborhood House’s Board of Directors. Recently, Jack’s photography skills and support for The Neighborhood House were both “put on display,”
