The Neighborhood House
News & Notes
Calling all Crafty Kids!
In July we’ll be offering a series of arts & craft workshops for children entering grades 1-5. Each session will last approximately one hour. Most classes will either meet outside on our lawn or inside in the large Great Hall with open windows and ceiling fans for plenty of air circulation. Children should plan on wearing mask to the activity, but once it starts we’ll be spaced enough so that they can remove it if they’d like. Space is limited, so if you’d like to sign your child up for one or all of the aprox. one hour sessions, please give us a call at 276-5039 or contact us via email.
Get Outisde with the Adventure Club!
Children entering grades 5-8 can take part in a weekly outing around MDI. Children will meet at The Neighborhood House where they will have a chance to help “plan” that day’s adventure. Space is strictly limited to six participants and masks will be required when social distancing isn’t possible. At the conclusion of each adventure we can drop participants off directly at their homes.
Let's Dance! TikTok Dance Workshops Coming Soon!
Instructor Dezirae Zaman will be offering a unique series of 5 classes focused on perfecting the latest trending dances from the TikTok app. During the last few months with plenty of time at home, the app has become a popular way for kids to show off their dance moves and stay active and engaged with their peers.
Classes open to students in grades 5-8.
Summer Art Classes with Mike Duffy
Mike Duffy is a favorite of young artists from across MDI having instructed classes throughout our community for years. While Mike has offered instruction at The Neighborhood House during the past several winters and springs, our current situation means we can host some of his classes during the summer as well!
Gym Not Yet Ready to Reopen
Upon careful review and lots of discussion, The Neighborhood House has determined that implementation of all of the requirements in this first version of the checklist is not possible for our space at this time. Therefore, our gym will still remain closed to the public. It’s worth noting that checklists for other industries have been amended periodically and we will follow the situation closely. If and when the requirements change and allow us to open the gym to our community in a safe and practical manner, we look forward to doing so.
Divine Play Yoga is Back!
Divine Play Yoga with Mike Bouscaren returns every Wednesday and Saturday starting June 17. We’ve take extra measures to keep students safe and adhere to all State standards concerning Covid-19. One major change will be the requirement to register online prior to class. For all of the details, check out our Divine Play Yoga page right here…
Our "Reopening" Process has Begun!
Yes, staff members have returned to the building and will be working limited hours for the time being. If you need to reach us with any questions or for information, the best way is still via email or at 276-5039. You can certainly stop in to say hello as well (we’d be happy to see you!), but we just ask you do your best to remember a face covering.
#Uncookout2020 Sizzles!
Our first ever “UNcookout” is in the books! We missed our annual “Community Cookout” gathering on Memorial Day, but can think of no better alternative than still celebrating the holiday and unofficial start of summer with some of the amazing restaurants, fishermen, and farmers who call our island community home.
Kick Off the UNoffoicial Start of Summer with the UNcookout!
We're encouraging everyone to support these local eateries over Memorial Day Weekend (May 22-25). Order a meal (or more!), snap a photo and upload it to Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter with the hashtag #uncookout2020. We'll gather and share all of your photos as a way of showing we can still celebrate together and support our community and the small businesses that help make it so special.
New Sidewalk Fever!
It’s amazing what happens when you mix together a little too much “safe at home” time, an iPhone, and a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
Let's Celebrate with #Uncookout2020!
This whole pandemic thing really put a squeeze on our annual Memorial Day Community Cookout. We explored the options to do it safely (hot dog launchers, cheeseburger delivery via drone, etc), but ultimately settled on something way better-- an "Uncookout."
An Update on Summer Camp 2020
Our paramount concern is for the health and well-being of our campers, their families AND the adults and seniors within our small community. At The Neighborhood House, we have a responsibility to protect friends and neighbors of all ages throughout our town.
