Halloween Hooplah!
On Halloween the staff of The Neighborhood House hit the road aboard the “Treat Truck” to visit Seal Harbor, Somesville, and then back to NEH handing out plenty of treats along the way. Here are some snapshots of the fun
Takes a Lickin' & Keeps on Tickin'
Main Street has been buzzing with the sounds of construction throughout the fall, and at The Neighborhood House we had a timely project of our own.
Toot! Toot! Treat Truck Traverses Town
Mt. Desert Island’s only mobile Halloween extravaganza is set to hit the road Thursday, Oct. 31st and making stops throughout town. Why bring the Trick-or-Treating to us, when we can bring it to you?! "Kids" of all ages are invited to stop by the mobile Treat Truck to say hello and grab some treats... if you dare!
Afternoons on the Farm
Earlier this fall The Neighborhood House began a collaborative program with Whistle Pig Farm giving kids the opportunity not just to visit the idyllic farmstead, but interact with the numerous rescue horses and other animals as well. By expanding their boundaries through new experiences in this fun and welcoming environment, kids are able to form new connections with their peers, build self esteem by learning new skills and discovering talents, and perhaps picking up some lifelong memories along the way.
New Class! Mat Pilates / S-T-R-E-T-C-H
We’re excited to announce that instructor, Andrea Lepcio will be offering this new all levels class every Wednesday afternoon in the Great Hall at 4pm starting Dec. 4!
Horsing Around with Whistle Pig Farm
Whistle Pig Farm and The Neighborhood House are teaming up to offer a totally unique opportunity for kids ages 9-13. For six weeks we’ll be visiting the farm to take part in all sorts of activities ranging from basic horsemanship and riding to gardening homesteading, cooking, and more!
A Recipe That's Out of this World
Throughout the course of the summer, participants in the various Neighborhood House day camp programs take part in all sorts of adventures and activities— from hiking the mountains of Acadia to discovering hidden artistic abilities, and everything in between. On a recent morning, Neighborhood House board member and volunteer extraordinaire Douglas Cornman jumped into the act to lead a group of campers through the paces in the kitchen.
Bike Parade Welcomes Huge Turnout
The 19th Annual Neighborhood House Bike Parade & Ice Cream Social wheeled into town on Wednesday, August 7 welcoming more than 200 participants, and many more ice cream connoisseurs from across MDI. What started out nearly two decades ago as just an excuse for the community to gather and share a simple ice cream sundae has evolved into one of the more anticipated events of the summer, eagerly anticipated by both year ‘round and seasonal residents as well as visitors who just happen to stumble upon the fun.
Ho! Ho! Ho! Christmas in July Hits NE Hbr.
The Mount Desert Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its first ever “Christmas in July” celebration on Thursday, January 25th in Northeast Harbor.
Beautiful Weather Sets Stage for A Great Concert
On Thursday, July 18, Bee Parks & The Hornets took the “stage” outside at the Northeast Harbor Marina. Blue skies and a gentle breeze just strong enough to keep the mosquitos away made for a perfect evening outdoors.

August is just around the corner, and that means it's time to start making plans for the 19th Annual Neighborhood House Bike Parade & Ice Cream Social. We're not sure why this event has grown so much or become such an anticipated annual tradition, but we do know it's always a whole lot of fun. Grab your wheels (bikes, scooters, skateboards, tricycles, strollers, and other contraptions welcome) and join us! .
Bash at the Boatyard An Overwhelming Success!
On July 11, 325 guests gathered at Abel’s Yacht Yard on Somes Sound for the 4thAnnual Bash at the Boatyard, a fundraiser for The Neighborhood House. In addition to raising funds to assist with the year ‘round slate of activities, and in particular the Summer Camp program, the evening also serves as a chance to gather with friends to celebrate and socialize in a laid-back atmosphere.
