Police Assocation Helps with Heat

Even as the forecast calls for frigid temperatures to end the week, our hearts were warmed thanks to the generosity of the Mount Desert Police Association. On Monday, Jan. 20, Officer Ken Mitchell and Lt. Kevin Edgecomb dropped by The Neighborhood House to present a check to the MDI Community Campfire Coalition.

The Campfire Coalition is a joint program of The Neighborhood House in Northeast Harbor and Harbor House in Southwest Harbor which has provided heating assistance to families on Mt. Desert Island, the Cranberry Isles, and Swan’s Island for more than a decade. Every penny raised by the Coalition goes directly to purchase heating fuel.

With the surge in fuel prices over the last several months (along with the costs of virtually everything else), this thoughtful support from the Mt. Desert Police Association will have an immeasurable impact on families across our community. To find out more about the MDI Community Campfire Coalition, including how you can contribute, visit the Campfire page on our website. You can also call The Neighborhood House at 276-5039 or Harbor House at 244-3713 and we’d be happy to assist.
