Lunch Brings Increased Interest Rate
More than 100 Drop by to Join Bar Harbor Bank & Trust for Lunch
Wow! Our friends from Bar Harbor Bank & Trust generously put on lunch at Thursday's Community Cafe, and 125 guests from all over MDI turned out to show their support and enjoy a delicious Tex-Mex meal. Although there's always a great turnout to each Cafe, the large crowd set the high mark for the season thus far.
Of course, before lunch could be served a lot of work was required to get everything just perfect. On Wednesday, a terrific group of volunteers took over the kitchen to slice vegetables, and even whip up a batch of homemade guacamole to satisfy the large crowd which was expected.
Here's a "pro tip" we learned: after you make the guacamole and pack it in tupperware, pour a small amount of water on top before you put the lid on and slide it into the refrigerator. The water will keep all of the oxygen out so the "guac" stays fresh and green without any oxidation. When you're ready to enjoy it, just drain the water off the top and you're good to go. Give it a try next time and you'll be amazed!
A pleasant (and delicious) addition to the Cafe was some fresh salsa generously provided by Mitchell's Fresh along with some tortilla chips. The company was founded by an MDI native just over a decade ago and has grown tremendously (and we know why after giving it a try!). Mitchell's Fresh salsa is available locally at Hannaford in the deli section, as well as at the Southwest Harbor Foodmart, and Gott's Store-- be sure to check it out!
If you missed out on all the fun at our latest Cafe, no worries-- we've got you covered. There is ONE more Cafe luncheon left in the season. Be sure to mark your calendar for Thursday, April 19 when we'll be celebrating spring with a picnic style lunch. The fun gets underway at 11:30am and will run until 1pm. Takeout containers will be available for those on the run. The suggested donation is just $7, and seniors are always invited to join us "on the house."
