Cookout Highlights Memorial Day Gathering in Northeast Harbor
Schedule of Events
10:30AM - Memorial Day Parade
11:00AM (approximately) - American Legion Ceremonies at Joseph T. Musetti Veterans Park (Marina)
11:30AM (approximately) - Community Cookout at Marina
We feel like we say this every year, but it still rings true— can you believe it’s already Memorial Day? Before we’re fully enthralled in the summer season though, it’s always nice to have the opportunity to gather as a community and take stock of what makes us so lucky to call this place home. For years now the “Community Cookout” has done just that. This year’s gathering once again falls on Memorial Day— Monday, May 27th. We hope you can join us!
The day’s festivities will commence any 10:30am with the Memorial Day Parade down Main Street and wrapping up at the harbor. Any children who would like to walk with our Neighborhood House contingent in the parade are encouraged to join us outside Mt. Desert Elementary School by 10:15am. We love having helping hands to pass out American flags along the parade route, and kids can meet up with their parents when the parade arrives at the marina.
Following the parade will be a brief Memorial Day ceremony conducted by American Legion Post 103 accompanied by music from both the MDES and MDIHS bands. The cookout will begin immediately thereafter. Everyone is invited to come enjoy a hamburger, cheeseburger or hotdogs along with chips, drink and dessert. The suggested donation is just $5 and we invite all veterans to enjoy a complimentary lunch.
One again, we want to thank our longtime and generous sponsors of this event for their continued support of The Neighborhood House and community as a whole. So THANK YOU Main Street Variety, Northeast Plumbing & Heating, S.R. Tracy Paint Shop, Thomas W. Wallace Construction and WMH Architects. We really appreciate your support!
