Updated Face Covering & Gym Reopening Information

KEY POINTS:

  1. In keeping with CDC guidance, fully vaccinated people are no longer required to wear a face covering while in the building. We require those not fully vaccinated continue to wear a mask inside until further notice.

  2. The gym will be reopening Tuesday, June 1st!

  3. The same masking rules that apply to the rest of the building also apply to the gym.

Covid-19 Mask Policy as of May 24, 2021

In accordance with CDC guidance, beginning Monday, May 24, visitors to The Neighborhood House who have been fully vaccinated* need not wear a face covering while indoors if they so choose. For those who have not been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, face coverings are still REQUIRED while inside the building. These rules apply to all activities and functions within The Neighborhood House until if/when we announce otherwise.

Gym Reopening

The lower-level gym will reopen for general access beginning Tuesday, June 1. As always, a valid membership is required. We are asking everyone to stop by our main office during normal business hours to complete a new registration form so we have your most current contact information on file. If you still have an access card, please bring it with you and we can reactivate it for you. If you still have time on your membership remaining from prior to the shutdown, we’ll reactivate your card only when you ask us to.

Please Note: The great news is that updated CDC guidance permits us to safely reopen the gym! However, for those who are not fully vaccinated, a mask (that covers both nose and mouth) will still be required while exercising in either the gym or studio space. We cannot make any exceptions to this rule.

A couple of things EVERYONE should consider

  1. If not vaccinated, are you comfortable working out with a face covering over both your nose and mouth? More than likely (especially if your workout is of moderate-high intensity) the answer will be no. We’d suggest you hold off on purchasing a membership until you are fully vaccinated or if/when such a time that CDC guidance causes amendments to our current policies.

  2. Are you comfortable working out indoors knowing that it’s possible not all individuals are fully vaccinated, and some vaccinated people will not be wearing masks? It’s absolutely normal to be a little hesitant, so if you’re not quite ready to return don’t worry about it. You can come back whenever you think the time is right— we’ll be here!

  3. Even though physical distancing limits have been eliminated, we encourage everyone to be considerate when working out and allow for as much space as possible— this just makes the atmosphere more comfortable for everyone! Also, although it’s an old rule it’s always a good reminder to thoroughly wipe down the equipment after use— use as many of the disinfectant wipes as you like.

Pre-pandemic, classes like this were the norm. We’ll get back to those levels soon, but for the next few weeks we’ll keep class sizes limited while everyone gets back into the groove of things in a comfortable manner.

Group Fitness Classes

The masking rules for group fitness classes (such as Yoga, Tai Chi, etc., are just the same as they are for the gym or any other space in the building. If you’re fully vaccinated, you can choose whether or not you want to wear a mask, and if you’re not fully vaccinated, a properly fitting mask is required. Also, please note that while physical distancing standards have been eliminated, we’ll continue to limit class sizes for the next few weeks while everyone eases back into things.

*Fully Vaccinated is defined as receiving the second doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or single does of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine a minimum of 14 days ago.
