Bash at the Boatyard An Overwhelming Success!

On July 11, nearly 325 guests gathered at Abel’s Yacht Yard on Somes Sound for the 4th Annual Bash at the Boatyard, a fundraiser for The Neighborhood House. In addition to raising funds to assist with the year ‘round slate of activities, and in particular the Summer Camp program, the evening also serves as a chance to gather with friends to celebrate and socialize in a laid-back atmosphere. If you were unable to make it, take a look at our event photo gallery and keep reading for all of the highlights.

Colorful bags were created by summer campers and used to keep each bottle of wine a “mystery”

A generous group of local sponsors helped make the Bash at the Boatyard a success

The evening started with a “Wine Grab,” featuring more than 40 bottles generously provided by supporters. The identity of each bottle—with a value of at least $25—was kept a mystery and participants could pick a bottle at random for $25.

While perusing the vast silent auction which featured goods contributed by dozens of local merchants, artists, and crafts people, guests were treated to the sounds of a talented trio of jazz musicians from MDI High School. There was also plenty to eat and drink with a creative and mouthwatering collection of hors d’oeuvres prepared by Bar Harbor Catering Co along with complimentary beer & wine and full cash bar.

Our crack staff of volunteers helped get more than 300 guests checked-in smoothly… even the four-legged ones.

The highlight of the evening was the “paddle raise,” which was focused on raising $14,000 to bridge the gap between revenue and expenses within the invaluable summer day camp program. The operating cost of this eight-week program is more than $120,000, and while the majority of that cost is offset by user fees and some generous grants from private foundations for scholarships, etc., a gap of $14K remains (or should we say, “remained.”)

Not only was the $14,000 goal met during the paddle raise, but it was accomplished in less than ten minutes! THANK YOU for being a difference maker and casting a vote of confidence in The Neighborhood House and the role it plays across our community.

Thank you to all those who attended, the dozens of businesses and individuals who contributed items to the silent auction, the cadre of volunteers who kept everything running smoothly, and our fantastic event sponsors for their continued support! We’re already looking forward to setting sail for the 5thAnnual Bash next July! Stay tuned for details!
